Newcomer Programs
The Allentown School District Newcomer Programs serves a culturally and linguistically diverse student population from around the world. The programs are designed to meet the unique needs of refugees, asylum seekers and migrant education students. English Learner students with interrupted formal education and those that have experienced trauma due to war, economic hardship or while migrating to the United States could also qualify for the Newcomer program.
The Newcomer Programs offers focused English language instruction and supported content courses. The programs are temporary and transitional so students can obtain adequate skills and tools for academic success in grade-level courses.
Additionally, students are afforded the support necessary to graduate high school and be college and career ready.
Goals of the programs include:
- High-quality instruction that increases students’ English language development.
- Cultural adjustment supports with on-going social and emotional learning opportunities.
- Research-based entry and exit plans for students’ transition to general educational courses.

Our Family & Staff Organization meets biweekly in-person and virtually.
